Day One of Italy Vacation 2017

Today is the day, the day that Rob and I get on two planes and head across the sea to Italy. It has been 20 years since we have flown, last time was for our five year anniversary. We went to Boston and rented a car and took a road trip up to Maine. This time we are flying to Venice, Italy and renting a car and driving across country and ending in Rome.

We celebrated our twenty fifth anniversary in July and decided to wait until Fall to truly celebrate. Most years if we take a big vacation we do road trips across the US. We have driven all the way to Niagra Falls, Yosemite and Yellowstone with lots of places in between. There is a lot of beauty in this country and we are not finished exploring it yet. This year being a special occasion and let’s face it we’re not getting any younger, we really wanted to go outside our comfort zone and see more of the world. I have always wanted to see Italy, especially the Tuscan region. Rob loves history and there is a lot to explore there in Italy!

Today is our “get there” day, so nothing to see or do except fly and the logistics of getting from point a to point b. Our day starts heading to the airport in Atlanta to board a plane for Newart, NJ. From there we are off to Venice where we will pick up our rental car, head to the hotel and then start exploring.

Its going to be long and nerve racking day! Rob is a nervous flyer and I’m nervous about the airport check in and such. Once we get on the plane to Venice I think I’ll be fine. Although it has been 30 years since I have flown across water and I am nervous about being on a huge plane with tons of people.

I’m not sure how much if any I will be able to blog during the trip, we will hit the ground running tomorrow (September 29). On October 10, we will head back home and should be in our house around 1-2 am on the 11th. I will probably at least write on the plane and a day or two after we get home add pictures and publish. If you’re interested stay tuned. I really hope to do a lot of photography while we are there. Rob is taking the GoPro  so maybe some video too!
